Malta Financial Services Authority - Analyst within the Fintech and Virtual Currencies team
Mr. Christos Efthymiopoulos has a solid academic and professional background in the field of Law and significant working experience in the field of Fintech and virtual currencies. He currently works as Analyst for the Malta Financial Service Authority’s Fintech and Virtual Currencies team within the Securities and Markets Supervision Unit focusing on policy and regulatory development relating to new technologies for financial services including but not limited to Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs), Virtual Currencies (VCs) and service providers involved in ICO and/or other VC activity. From the outset of his appointment, Christos has been heavily involved with the drafting and development of the Virtual Financial Assets legislative and regulatory framework as well as the cybersecurity guidelines in relation thereto.
Before joining the Authority, Christos was working as Compliance Officer, Lawyer and MLRO Designated Employee for GM Corporate and Fiduciary Services Limited, focusing mainly on financial services, with particular attention to investment funds, FinTech, Regulatory Compliance and Anti-Money Laundering. Prior to relocating to Malta, Christos had worked for the legal department of Greek Consular Office in The Hague, Netherlands, focusing on European and private international law matters. Christos further practiced for one year in the law firm of Dimitrios Pollalis, focusing on advising clients on all legal aspects, both within Greece and abroad, having a special focus on commercial, corporate and e-commerce law. This involved drafting, reviewing and negotiation of complex agreements. Christos holds an LL.B. from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and is currently completing his LL.M. in Law and Technology from Tilburg University.
