International Corporate Lawyer
Anton Micallef LL.D., Ph.D. (Lond.) is an international corporate lawyer working mainly as chief legal strategist, selecting and managing multi-jurisdictional legal teams to deal with resolving complex group structures, legal issues on a transnational basis or prepare for international judicial or arbitral litigation. His thirty year experience has developed across some thirty or more countries and cities worldwide.
He is global general counsel to a multinational company in the maritime sector for more than two decades. In 2017-2018, he acted as chief counsel and strategist in successfully prosecuting a challenge to an unlawful award in a billion sterling procurement case in the London High Court against the UK Ministry of Defence.
He is Visiting Senior Lecturer in International Law, Conflict of Laws and Trust Law at the University of Malta. His lecturing experience covers topics as wide ranging as the prosecution of war criminals to privatisation law at the London School of Economics & the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (University of London) and at various conferences and seminars in Europe.
In 2009 to 2012 Dr Micallef was Executive Chairman of Valletta Cruise Port Plc, the cruise terminal concessionaire in Malta. His chairmanship occurred on the eve of the company’s local monopoly expiration. He pioneered ground breaking corporate governance and business model changes resulting in a 50% increase in passenger traffic over three years.
Dr Micallef is fluent in English and Italian and is a member of the RAC and Anabels in London, the Monaco Yacht Club and STEP – the Society of Trust Practitioners.
