Dr. David Cowan is Editor-at-Large of Global Legal Post, Editor of Robotics Law Journal, and an author. He also teaches effective communications and dialogue at SABIC Academy, the petrochemicals company, in Saudi Arabia and globally. His book Strategic Internal Communication: How to Build Employee Engagement and Performance (Kogan Page) went into a second edition last year. He is currently working on his fifth book, which is on communications for lawyers, using a tool he created called The Dialogue Box featuring an arbitration and ADR component.
His career started as a technology journalist and writer for business media and organizations, including the Financial Times, Euromoney, Economist Intelligence Unit and OECD. He has held a number of top communication posts, with his lost posting at the steel company ArcelorMittal with global responsibility for employee communications covering 320,000 employees in 65 countries. At the World Bank in Washington DC, he led communications for the IFC Environment & Social Development department. He also headed communications at Clearstream International/Deutsche Borse in Luxembourg.
Dr. Cowan is a former Visiting Scholar at Boston College, USA, and was invited to deliver and publish the Henry Hazlitt Memorial Lecture at the Mises Institute, Auburn University, USA. He holds a bachelor and a master’s degree from the University of Oxford and a master’s from the University of St Andrews, where he received his PhD in International Relations. He has a keen interest in the arts & literature, writing and reviewing for a number of major arts publications and is a regular contributor to the Catholic Herald.
