New Building Technical Projects - Assistant Vice President
Mohamed Zaitoun joined UASC in 1988 as a Marine Engineer and has more than 27 years of extensive knowledge and technical expertise in the shipping industry.
Mr. Zaitoun is leading the Newbuilding and Technical Projects department since 2013, he is currently managing the implementation of one of the industry’s largest and most technologically advanced new building programs, worth over US$ 2.3 billion, with seventeen new vessels on order; six 18,800 TEU and eleven 15,000 TEU containerships. These vessels will be the first ultra large containerships in the industry to be delivered ‘LNG ready’, to enable dual fuel (the use of both traditional heavy fuel oil as well as liquefied natural gas or LNG fuel). Till date He has supervised the building and delivery of eight vessels.
Mr. Zaitoun started his career on board one of UASC’s vessels, then he joined the fleet management in 2002, his expertise were crucial in implementing the A7 newbuilding program, with eight 6,921 TEU containerships in 2005, then he spearheaded the team implementing the A13 newbuilding program, with nine 13,500 TEU containerships in 2008.
Mr. Zaitoun holds a BSc in Marine Engineering from Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), He has also completed successfully several specialized courses in maritime studies and naval architecture from different prestigious institutes. He is also a member of the International Ship Recycling Association and a Member of the Shipdex Organization. He wrote several articles with technical focus in different specialized magazines.
